Meet the Maclaren Triumph Umbrella Stroller

An in-between of the Maclaren Volo and Quest is the Maclaren Triumph.

While it lacks a leg rest and being extremely light, it’s like the Volo where it has a sturdy backrest that can be partially reclined. Three-month-old babies can ride safely thanks to this recline feature.

The Triumph is appropriate for short strolls around cities because of its small wheels with suspension. Numerous Maclaren seat liners are available if you feel like your Triumph may need a little more padding.

In 2016/2017, it was made available in a limited quantity that was basketball-inspired, for the Maclaren Objects of Design All-Star edition.

Value for Money

A facelift was done to the Triumph in 2016. This updated Triumph has:

  • a simpler backrest adjustment system
  • an extended, vented cover with an additional sun visor and a pocket at the back
  • a more user-friendly shopping basket access system, and
  • removable wheels

Many parents like this model because of it is durable and light.

According to a parent who evaluated this model, you can get a Maclaren Triumph in one of the six gorgeous colors for roughly $200 on Amazon with free shipping, free returns, and no sales tax.

Here’s a quick update – this model is currently unavailable on Amazon, but you can check other online stores if you’re interested in this stroller.

What parents say

“Cleaning and storing it is simple. Great for domestic and international travel. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but well worth the money.” – M. March 7, 2019, 5 stars

“The Maclaren looks naked without the sunshade, so you kind of need it. Overall, I’m delighted with my purchase, but I now need to comb the internet for a replacement sun shield, which has proven difficult. It will probably cost $50 or a bit more.” – J. February 13, 2017, 4 stars

“When the stroller is folded up, the sunroof always becomes soiled from the wheels touching it. I would, however, strongly suggest this stroller for traveling at this price point.” – N. August 17, 2016, 4 stars

“We haven’t had the need to buy another umbrella stroller all these years. I find this stroller to be well worth its price.” – J. January 29, 2020, 5 stars

Ease of Use

While folding the Triumph can be a little challenging the first few times, with practice, it becomes easy and quick. Once you master the one-hand fold, you can complete it in a matter of seconds.

Recent varieties of its five-point safety harness include a woven two-color contrast that looks nice. In order to remove the buckle, you must press both the front and the back with two fingers, which is good for young children who are skilled escape artists. Its height is adjustable, to help accommodate your growing child.

What parents say

“A few issues – the child can put his feet on the ground when using it. This stroller gets dirty when folded.” – N. April 2, 2017, 1 star

“Despite being a little bigger than its counterparts, I don’t appreciate that its shade can’t be adjusted.” – C. April 2, 2017, 3 stars

“The stroller has made me very happy. It is quite convenient to use while traveling.” – A. November 14, 2017, 5 stars

Portability

The Triumph’s built-in shoulder carry strap is quite comfortable and makes transportation simple. You can carry it over your shoulder with ease because it only weighs 11.9 lbs.

Its automated lock on the side keeps the folded frame in place.

What parents say

“It is quite light! Folding and opening with one hand is simple.” – D. July 15, 2016, 4 stars

“Although it is somewhat fragile in comparison to my other stroller, it is incredibly lightweight and simple to open and close.” – K. May 20, 2016, 5 stars

Maneuverability

It is a delight to use this stroller on long walks because of its smooth ride and manageability. The Triumph is more stable on uneven terrain, thanks to its 5-inch wheels and the option to lock the front wheels in place.

Its linked parking brakes are amazing; you only need to step down once to apply the brakes and the stroller will stop completely. Some parents have had a negative experience with the brakes, unfortunately.

What parents say

“Pushing my 25-lb. toddler seems like pushing 800 pounds, and I can honestly say that I HATE THIS STROLLER. Brakes that get stuck are irritating.” – J. October 3, 2017, 1 star

“It has some useful features, but compared to other strollers, it feels cumbersome to push, especially when an older child is aboard.” – C. April 2, 2017, 3 stars

“It really is a fantastic stroller! Despite the frame’s light weight, it performs nicely on the streets of New York.” – C. July 23, 2016, 5 stars

Safety and Quality

The Maclaren Triumph’s build quality and durability has earned praise from parents.

Other umbrella strollers of this size can only carry a baby between 30 and 40 lbs. The weight limit of this stroller’s performance aluminum framing can hold up to 55 lbs. Extraordinary!

What parents say

“It’s still quite strong and in excellent functioning shape, even though this was five years ago. We now use it for our 2-year-old son, so it’s been with us a long time.” – M. March 7, 2019, 5 stars

“I mean, this stroller is the greatest I’ve ever had. Nothing else is a brand I would pick. I mean, this stroller is tough!!! From the time my son was two to four years old, he rode in it and it endured numerous excursions to theme parks, hefty handbags, lunch bags, etc.” – F. March 7, 2017, 5 stars

“In general, the Maclaren Triumph Stroller has a high build quality and is made of very robust materials.” – J. February 13, 2017, 5 stars

Parent Tip!

One parent’s Triumph became significantly distorted due to hot weather. A word of caution: if you live in locations with a hot climate like Southern California or Arizona, you might want to bring your sunshade whenever you can, to protect your little passenger.

Accessorize Your Maclaren Triumph

One parent advises using the Maclaren Universal Organizer if you require additional space for your items. It includes two bottle holders plus a sizable storage compartment.

Should the weather turn gloomy during your outing, you can use the provided rain cover. If you’re strolling in the sun, the canopy tilts to shade your youngster from harmful UV rays at different angles.

What parents say

“It doesn’t have a cup holder, and I wish the shade could draw out in front of the child. These are reasons I didn’t give it a five.” – D. July 15, 2016, 4 stars

“There are no handlebar storage areas or cup holders. However, you may buy these separately.” – M. March 14, 2016, 5 stars

Is the Maclaren Triumph a Practical Choice for Your Family?

Maclaren offers a LIFETIME warranty starting from the initial date of purchase, but you must be the first owner. Unfortunately, some parents complain about the company’s unfriendly customer service because they can’t call them and can only contact them via email if they have any issues with their strollers.

Every step of the way, your child’s safety is guaranteed. The Maclaren Global Safety Standards are a collection of highly engineered security features that are included in every Maclaren stroller and meet the strictest safety requirements in the world.

The Maclaren Triumph is very light; hence it helps to makes life simple if you’re alone in taking care of your little one. It’s easy to put in and take out of your car trunk or to use on public transport. The best thing is it’s easy to fold and unfold.

If the Triumph’s features tick the right boxes, then it could be a good stroller option that’s worth looking into.
