Get to Know the Thule Urban Glide 2 Jogging Stroller

The Thule Urban Glide 2 is a jogging stroller that can easily be used as an everyday stroller. It is a breeze to maneuver with its features such as a large swivel front wheel, adjustable tracking (which parent-runners will appreciate), and its rear-wheel suspension. For storage, it has an under-seat covered basket which can accommodate 10 lbs. There are additional stow pockets for the parent and little passenger, too. These features enable families to carry all-day supplies for those cool outdoor adventures. Due to its design, parents might find the Urban Glide 2 a bit bulky and cumbersome to handle. While it can be hard to store it at home or bring it along in the family vehicle, we think it’s still a great buy as it can effortlessly double as a jogger and everyday stroller. It may prove to be an excellent choice for families, especially those with active lifestyles (and with deeper pockets!).

We analyzed the feedback of over 100 parents and the clear conclusion was that the Thule Urban Glide 2 is a good value for money stroller, given its ability to provide dual-purpose functions that are helpful to the family – runners and non-runners alike. The Urban Glide 2 scored a respectable 74% in our tests, and it is definitely a recommended buy for those looking for a versatile jogging/everyday stroller. Test Results

Value for Money: 7.3/10

How much bang for your buck are you getting with this model?

The $ for $ value you get from this stroller is one of its stronger features, and the Urban Glide 2 scored 7.3 out of 10 in this category. Based on our stroller survey, most respondents are happy with its overall performance. It comes with some drawbacks though, in terms of what’s included in the price.

Some of the less expensive strollers include essential accessories like a parent console and child tray. Unfortunately, this jogger doesn’t come with those, plus they can be pricey if considering buying them.

It also has some build/design issues pertaining to weight and wheel assembly; these are discussed further in this article.

To compensate, the Urban Glide 2 is a reliable bet with its great maneuverability on various terrain, lockable front wheel, adjustable handlebar, generous canopy, and large pneumatic tires which help provide baby with that smooth ride all parents are concerned about. In addition, it can be used from birth with the Thule Bassinet (sold separately).

That said, this stroller is a great dual-purpose option for families who want to enjoy adventurous days out with an easy-to-push stroller, or for parents who really want to get some serious miles under their belt while bonding with their little ones.

Is it long-lasting?

Is it suitable for a wide age range? Will you get a good few years’ of use out of it? In terms of durability – the Urban Glide 2 features a solid aluminum frame and tight, durable fabric with strong connection points. It only has a few connection points that are exposed, and the connection of the fabric to the frame is seamless. Parents find this jogger reliable even after 3-4 years of use. They also say:
  • This jogger is robust with its safety features and smooth ride.
  • You can get more mileage out of it due to the heavy-duty tires.
  • It has a very solid construction. After six months of regular use, it’s still like new.

Usability 6.8/10

This jogger’s overall ease of use scored a 6.8 in our testing. Assembly and Set-Up was one of its strongest features, with parent/child conveniences and expandability not so good.

Assembly/Set-up

How easy is it to assemble out of the box?

Setting up the Urban Glide 2 is very easy – it just takes about 5-10 minutes to get it up and running.

This stroller arrives partly assembled, with the front wheel already attached. All you need to do is unfold the main chassis, lock in the back wheels, double-check the air for all three tires (30-35psi is recommended), and you and your baby are ready for your adventures!

Is the manual clear and helpful?

The directions take a few pages to start, and the illustrations are clear and easy to follow. Check out this jogger’s multilingual manual which helps facilitate stroller assembly. Some parents find that the Urban Glide 2’s manual isn’t that intuitive, though. They find it more convenient to seek for answers on YouTube instead – for example, how to resolve issues with folding/unfolding. For Assembly/Set-Up, we gave it a score of 8.5 out of 10.

Weight

Is it heavy to push, carry up the stairs, put in a car trunk, get on the bus, etc.?

The Urban Glide 2 weighs in at 25 lbs. (about two times as heavy as a gallon of paint). While its air-filled rubber tires contribute to a light, smooth push, the actual weight of the stroller tells a different story. One mother says that she struggles to use it because she can’t get the stroller and her child down the stairs of her apartment building at the same time. Another parent reports that it is heavy and does not fold up or store easily. She needs to remove the wheels to be able to store it properly. She ended up returning it because she felt it wasn’t portable enough to be used in different settings, and that she wasn’t interested in purchasing multiple strollers just to compensate for the features she needed. This jogger is not as lightweight or travel-friendly as would be ideal. Parents say that getting this jogger in and out of the car is challenging enough, hence they just prefer to use it straight from their homes.

Folding and Unfolding

How it works

The Urban Glide 2 employs a one-handed fold, though using two hands would be better. Lift the seat/calf rest to find a slide-and-twist unlocking mechanism that initiates the fold. With a bit of practice, folding this jogger is quite easy to do. Imagine having a restless toddler under your arm and needing to get the stroller in your car trunk quickly – doing a one-hand fold can indeed be a lifesaver! It’s almost effortless to make the overall package more compact, too. Just use the quick-release function – the button in the center of the wheel that can be pressed – to remove the rear wheels. This is one of the best features of the Urban Glide 2 and it scored 7/10 for this feature in our analysis. If you’re more of a visual learner, check out this Thule product video from 1:36 to 2:00 which shows how easy it is to collapse this stroller and remove the quick-release wheels. For those who like reading manuals, please refer to Page 58 of the product manual on how to fold and unfold this jogger. There’s one gripe to bear in mind – parents have complained about the locking mechanism. When folding the stroller, a little plastic piece locks the stroller in folded position. It is cheap and easily breaks. And when it does break, it’s hard to handle the stroller without it opening mid-lift. Currently, there is no replacement part available; the entire stroller will need to be replaced if it breaks.

Parent Tip!

One parent says that this jogger can stand upright when folded, that is if the handlebar is in the right spot (halfway folded down).

Folded size

This stroller has a folded size of 27.2″W x 13.3″H x 34.2″L or 12,372 cubic inches (about one-and-three-tenths times as big as a bathtub). The Urban Glide 2 is not the smallest or lightest stroller, so if you’re looking for a jogging stroller that’s convenient to travel with, just be mindful that even when folded, this stroller takes space and needs some effort to move it around.

Handlebar

Is it comfortable to use?

This stroller’s handlebar has a foam covering and is adjustable with 4 positions – from 30” to 46”. Thanks to the adjustable handlebar, tall parents don’t have to slouch over it and short parents can avoid wrist fatigue. Also, when running, you have no chance of hitting the back of the stroller as the distance of the handlebar creates a safe zone. One parent says that she and her husband are 6” apart in height; the different handlebar positions help them to handle this jogger super comfortably.

While the handlebar has an ergonomic design, some parents find it a bit uncomfortable to hold due to the handbrake that is located at the center of the handlebar. Be gently reminded that opinions may vary on the comfort and ease of use in relation to the handlebar height of the Urban Glide 2.

Car Seat Adaptability

Can the Urban Glide 2 accommodate other car seat brands?

Yes! The Urban Glide 2 works with several infant car seat brands using the appropriate adapters. The Chicco car seat adapter suits the Chicco Keyfit 30 infant car seat. The Maxi Cosi car seat adapter works with some options from Maxi-Cosi, Nuna, BeSafe, and Cybex. The Thule universal car seat adapter works with popular car seats such as the UPPAbaby Mesa and Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 4-35, plus seats by Graco, Britax, Bob, and Safety 1st. One gripe about this universal adapter is that it requires a secondary strap. This is a step that parents might skip or forget, posing a potential safety risk.

Check out this Thule car seat compatibility chart to make sure that your car seat is safe to use with the Urban Glide 2 jogger. A gentle reminder – it’s not advisable for newborns to stay long periods in car seats. The Thule Bassinet provides a safe, cozy, and sheltered place for infants. To know more about this option, please check out this Thule video on YouTube from 2:12 to 3:07. To find out how easy it is to install your car seat onto this jogger, kindly check out Thule’s car seat adapter instructions or view this YouTube video from 3:12. If wanting to consider connecting other brands that may not be in the Thule car seat compatibility chart, please remember to exercise due diligence – it is always best to double-check if these car seats indeed attach securely before placing your little one in it.

Storage Basket

Is it big enough and easy to access?

The Urban Glide 2 storage basket has a weatherproof zippered cover that keeps your items contained and free of dirt and water. It also has small, zippered pocket on the outside. Its covered/zippered storage area has a capacity of 10 lbs. To get an idea of the space, this stroller’s storage basket can comfortably accommodate a diaper bag that is 7.3″D x 12.5″L x 13.4″H. As a bonus, there are stow pockets for parents and the little ones. In the child seat are two easy-to-access mesh pockets for sippy cups and snacks. There is ample storage in the mesh pocket at the seat back, which spacious enough for a midsize water bottle and cell phone, or flatter items.
The basket has rear and side access. Parents report that it isn’t advisable to load too much in it. The weight of the items placed in it is supported only by Velcro so when there’s too much weight, the storage basket could fall onto the ground. Despite this, it is a respectable size and practical; the storage compartment scored 7.5 out of 10 in our test.

Brakes

Are the brakes secure and easy to apply?

Yes! The Urban Glide 2 has an easy-to-use single-action braking system. Its all-stop footbrake is either “on” or “off”; it is essentially the parking brake. If you need to stop the stroller to do something with your hands, this is the brake to use. It is easy to spot as it is colored red. Most importantly, it can be switched on and off with minimal pressure, even if you’re wearing flip-flops.

There’s also a deacceleration handbrake in the center of the handlebar. It is responsive and proves to be a handy way to slow down or stop, or for controlling speed on hilly terrain – just squeeze and twist it towards you. Be mindful that it only works while you are holding it, so use the footbrake when parking the stroller. It’s an 8.5/10 for this stroller’s brake system.

Parent Tip!

One minor issue with the footbrake is that when it’s being engaged, it produces a bit of a shudder that goes through the stroller. This could potentially wake a sleeping baby.

Footrest

Are the child’s feet safe and comfortable?

The footrest is triangular – some parents have experienced their child’s legs dangling off the side due to this shape. It could also use a bit more room so that a child can rest his/her tiny feet much more comfortably.

One parent says that the footrest is too small – her child’s legs tend to fall off to the sides. While her four-year-old didn’t mind, she knew that he was uncomfortable as his legs hung out and that any of his movements easily swayed the stroller. We score the footrest a 6.5/10. Conveniences

Parent Console

This jogger doesn’t include a parent console. It is sold separately, and prices start from $49.95 which can be quite costly especially for families who are strictly following a budget. Should you consider purchasing the parent console separately, check out the following specifications.

The parent console easily attaches to the stroller handlebar. It features a closed zippered pouch for your valuables like keys or your mobile phone. A bottle holder ensures that you always have your water at hand. While the Urban Glide 2’s parent console is a good thing to have, please be mindful of one safety concern. Since it is located high on the stroller behind the baby’s head, whatever’s in the cup holders could fall onto his/her head especially during those bumpier rides.

Another parent essential that’s sold separately is the single cup holder, the price of which starts from $24.99. It gives you quick access to your water bottle with simple and easy installation.

Child Tray

The child tray is another convenience that’s not included with the Urban Glide 2. It can be bought as a separate accessory though, with prices starting from $39.95 from baby gear retailers.

It keeps snacks within reach and has a swivel function for ease of child entry/exit. It is made from non-toxic, phthalate-free materials. It has an easy-to-clean surface and can hold standard water bottles or sippy cups.

Seat Recline

Does the seat recline into multiple positions? Is it easy to go up and down with it? Can you do it one-handed?

The Urban Glide 2’s seat recline is operated by a simple plastic toggle at the back of the sling-style seat. All you need to do is squeeze the toggle to bring the seat downwards. To sit the seat upright, squeeze again and pull the cord. You can lower the seat recline easily using one hand. Raising it, however, ideally needs two hands to make sure it’s secure and safe for when your little one sits in it.

It’s worth mentioning that the seat doesn’t sit 100% upright. Some children may feel frustrated about this, as per parent comments below:

  • One parent says when they were at a farm, her son had a problem looking at the sheep, goats, and other animals. Her workaround was to put a rolled blanket behind his back.
  • Another parent reports that her daughter wants to sit all the way upright, and so she is hesitant to get in the stroller as it can’t go upright 100%.
Other kids may be content with just sitting back and enjoying the ride. We gave this jogger’s seat recline a 7/10. It is good but could be better.

Parent Tip!

One mom says that the seat recline toggle can be a little difficult to use with a child sitting in the stroller, so be sure to make any necessary adjustments beforehand.

Harness

Is it easy to clip on and off? Is it comfortable for the child? Is it safe and secure?

The Urban Glide 2 features a 5-point harness that easily pops open when pressing the button. It goes on easily and gently straps in your baby’s shoulder and waist with a single pull. There’s no need to worry about pinching your little one with it. Its adjustable shoulder and crotch straps make it easier to fit the harness snugly and securely on your baby and especially the wiggly toddlers!

This harness is perfect for young babies, as it is extremely supportive around the waist. Most importantly, it doesn’t rub your child’s delicate skin – it is padded and soft to the touch. One parent says the straps could be a bit longer though, as they barely fit when a child is wearing a thick coat. It’s an EIGHT from our scorers here.

Sunshade / Canopy

Is the sunshade effective at protecting the child? How adjustable is the sunshade? Is it rain-resistant?

This jogger has a large canopy with a pop-out visor plus a zipper panel; these provide ventilation and more coverage. The canopy expands far to protect baby from the sun. Some parents say though, that their babies’ legs get a little hot if the sun is out, as the shade doesn’t completely cover them. It has a plastic peek-a-boo window that is paired with a silent magnetic closure. This feature will surely come in handy when wanting to check on your child as they take a quick nap during your walks. No interrupted naps here!

When the canopy is fully extended, there are also mesh side windows for additional airflow. The entire shade can rotate forward to protect baby from head-on sun or wind. The canopy’s material is durable, water-resistant, and comes with UPF 50+ sun protection, which means the fabric blocks 99.9% of both UVA and UVB light. As an additional note – the Thule rain cover works great in windy conditions. However, this is sold separately and needs to be factored in when budgeting.

Expandability

Can you adapt to a growing family with ride-on boards, etc.?

No. The Thule Stroller Board is only compatible with Thule Sleek and Thule Spring stroller models.

Aesthetics

Is the stroller nice looking / stylish? Is there a selection of designs to choose from?

The Urban Glide 2’s fit and finish are easy on the eye with high attention to detail. It is a high-quality option with an innovative design.

Our survey results show that parents find its modern, sleek design as one of its main selling points. Other style (and functional) points would be its ergonomic adjustable handle, handbrake, zippered cargo area, ability to easily remove back wheels which allows for more compact packing, and its suitability for families with active lifestyles.

Currently, it has one design in 5 different colors:

  • Black on Black
  • Black/Cypress Green
  • Dark Shadow
  • Black/Gray Melange
  • Aluminium/Majolica Blue

As per one parent, this stroller is gorgeous in the world of running strollers.

We give the Urban Glide 2 an 8.5/10 for its stylish looks.

Maintenance

How easy is it to clean the material, frame, storage, etc.?

In general, the Urban Glide 2 is easy to clean. All it needs is mild household soap and warm water on a sponge or clean cloth to get going.

Be mindful not to use harsh cleaners or solvents, as this can affect the performance and safety of this stroller.

Here are some care and maintenance tips for the Urban Glide 2:

  • The fabric of the seat components is not machine washable. Please use warm, soapy water to clean where necessary.
  • You can vacuum the seat area to get rid of crumbs and debris.
  • To clean the body, you can treat it like a mountain bike – use a clean rag to wipe it down, and warm soapy water to clear any dirt or debris.
  • The rear wheels can easily be detached to be washed thoroughly.
  • Thule recommends cleaning wheel axles and applying grease to moving parts.

To learn how to take off the fabric from the stroller and put it back on, please see this instructional video by Thule from 1:01. It’s an eight out of ten for maintainability.

Portability 6.4/10

Weight

Is it easy to lift in and out of a car trunk?

The Urban Glide 2 weighs 25 lbs. Parents report that they can lift it in and out of the car trunk, but it takes some effort to do so. While it is light for a jogging stroller, it can still be heavy for some. Also, the size makes it awkward to carry, especially for a smaller person.

Parent Tip!

One parent advises families with smaller vehicles to fully recline the child’s seat when folding, so that the stroller will fit in the trunk nicely. This can prove to be helpful if needing to move in a hurry.

Public Transport

Is it easy (ish) to use on trains, buses, etc.?

This stroller has a wide girth so at times, it can get difficult to lug up and down subway steps, and onto buses and trains. It helps that it folds up quickly though, which is great when there’s no one around to help. One parent was able to take it through an airport’s X-ray machine. The Urban Glide 2 fits inside trams and other transportation used to and from parking at parks such as Disney and Universal Studios.

Folding and Unfolding

Is it easy to lift and move when folded?

This stroller’s weight at 25 lbs. could be an issue for some parents. One parent says she can carry it one-handed, but it’s a job. A plus factor is that its large wheels can be taken off very easily if necessary. The resulting compact package helps in lifting and moving the stroller around much easier.

Folded Up Dimensions

Is it easy to store in a standard family car? At home?

A family that has a 2016 Forester reports that it basically takes up the entire trunk width. Some parents think that it’s probably too big to run errands with, as it takes up a lot of trunk space – they find the need to fold down their third-row seats in the SUV to fit it in. Majority of parents say that it’s a pain trying to get it in and out of a sedan trunk. We think that responses to this question will vary as it depends on what type of vehicle the family has.

On the home front, this stroller folds a bit big and is not ideal for compact spaces such as studio or 1-bedroom apartments. Some families find the need to take off the wheels to get it in their home with ease. A helpful compromise would be to remove the large back wheels to fit it into the home space comfortably. It can be placed in a corner of the living room or on the side of the couch in a standing position. And yes, it can stand upright, as per parent tip below.

Parent Tip!

One parent reports that it does stand upright, contrary to the many reviews that she’s read. The handlebar just needs to be adjusted to the furthest in position, and it will stand up beautifully.

Maneuverability 8.5/10

The Urban Glide 2’s best category performance is in Maneuverability – scoring a whopping 85%.

How maneuverable and easy to push is it?

One-handed operation/control

This jogger’s swivel front wheel allows for easy control by one hand. This is a plus for many parents, as it helps them to multitask when necessary.

Pushing around obstacles

If expecting it to fit between tables at restaurants or make tight turns through small stores, the Urban Glide 2 might not be the best option for you.

Is frame width a problem in narrow spaces?

It turns precisely, allowing easy maneuverability around tight porches and through doors. In contrast, one parent says that she couldn’t bring in the Urban Glide 2 to stores like Carter’s. Also, its overall length is longer than other strollers – this means some problems when entering narrow doorways and small elevators.

How about stairs and escalators?

We haven’t received any feedback about parents using it on stairs and escalators. And we hope not to get any! :c)

Is it easy to get up and down pavements and curbs?

Its wheels and shocks provide a smooth ride when going over pavements, small bumps, or curbs.

One parent says that their neighborhood has a lot of cracks in the sidewalk and uneven pavements from tree roots sticking up. She says that this stroller handles all that like a pro!

How easy is it to push on rough surfaces?

How is it on uneven surfaces?

The Urban Glide 2’s large rubber pneumatic tires help it move over uneven terrains easily.

One parent says that this stroller is unlike any of the inferior, unwieldy ones she’s used before. She puts 5 miles on it over a field, unpaved paths, roads, up and down hills – and it’s just a breeze to use.

Good for rough ground

The big wheels work well over almost any terrain, and manages gravel, sand, and grass of the great outdoors with ease. This jogger glides over loose gravel and hardly even makes a noise!

Parent Tip!

One concerned parent says to be mindful of the tires when out on hikes and the like – these can sometimes deflate especially when traversing rough terrain.

Is the front wheel lockable?

Yes, the front swivel wheel on the Urban Glide 2 is lockable. Just rotate the locking mechanism that’s above the wheel assembly to keep the front wheel in the fixed position. This increases the stroller’s stability while running or tackling bumpy roads.

Here’s a handy feature – the front wheel has a little adjustment dial. If your stroller tends to veer off in one direction, the “aim” can be adjusted quite easily using this dial.

There have been complaints about an extreme wobble from the front tire – it shakes the entire stroller vigorously at even a slow jogging pace. If specifically planning to go on a jog, please always remember to lock the front wheel so that it won’t wobble.

For more details on this, see the Safety & Quality section below.

Safety & Quality 7.8/10

While at a higher price point, the Urban Glide 2 comes with some hiccups, such as build/design issues pertaining to weight and wheel assembly. We’ve given it a 78% for Safety and Quality.

Material

Is the seat fabric good quality? Does it feel durable?

This stroller uses high-quality, comfortable fabrics that are easy to clean and quick-dry. The seat fabric is splash-proof, as it is made of a wipeable polyester fabric. Any accidental spills can be cleaned using baby wipes.

Not all parents agree about the “high-quality” aspect, though. They find the fabric to be just “okay”.

One parent says that the fabric can get incredibly worn and start to fray on one side. Also, our survey results show that the fabric seems to fade when often exposed to the sun.

Does it feel well-padded and comfortable?

The Urban Glide 2 has a nicely padded seat that is 13.5” wide.

Some parents find the seat a bit too narrow for a 3-year-old kid, though. To compensate, the backrest and leg rest provide enough support even for 4-year-olds.

The seat features an infinite recline; the backrest can be set at any angle to suit a child who wants to sit upright and view his surroundings or take a quick nap.

To add, this jogger’s seat is secure and comfortable with its padded 5-point harness and integrated ventilation.

Be gently reminded that opinions may vary on the material quality in relation to frequency of use of the Urban Glide 2.

We scored an 8 out of 10 for the material quality – one of the higher scores we have given in all our stroller analysis.

Is it a robust, well-designed piece of equipment?

Frame construction

The Urban Glide 2 is equipped with a sturdy aluminum frame. It is fit with durable, tight fabric with strong connection points. The attachment of the fabric to the frame is seamless, and the frame shows only a few exposed connection points.

There’s one downside – the piece which locks the stroller when it’s folded tends to break off. It is made of plastic and easily breaks. And when it does break, it can be challenging to handle the stroller without it opening mid-lift. There is no replacement part available at this time – the entire stroller will need to be replaced if this little piece breaks.

Overall, this stroller’s frame is at par with its price tag – it is solid but comes with a few hiccups which could be costly.

We give it an 8 out of 10.

Suspension

This Urban Glide 2 has built-in rear-wheel suspension, which greatly affects a child’s comfort and safety plus its ability to be effortlessly pushed on various surfaces without the baby being knocked about. Its big pneumatic tires also help in making your baby’s ride smoother.

One mom has observed that her little one sleeps longer and more comfortably in this stroller, even when on the bumpy trails. This jogger’s suspension system looks to really work to a child’s favor.

Check out the latest prices of the Thule Urban Glide 2 on Amazon.

Seat

The seat of the Urban Glide 2 has a recline mechanism that can be operated easily using one hand. Raising it ideally needs two hands, just to make sure it’s been set up safely for your little passenger.

Its recline is infinite – the backrest can be placed at any angle to enable a child to sit upright and view his surroundings or take a quick snooze.

This jogger has a nicely padded seat. With a width of 13.5”, it may seem a bit narrow for a 3-year-old. It helps that the design of the overall seat compensates for this concern, as the backrest and leg rest provide adequate support for toddler passengers.

What’s more, the seat is equipped with an easy-to-attach, snug and secure 5-point harness with padded straps. It benefits from additional covered ventilation at the top of it, too.

Here are some parents’ gripes on the seat:

  • The fact that it doesn’t sit 100% upright is worth noting, as this could frustrate some children.

    – One parent says that her daughter wants to sit all the way upright, and so she is hesitant to get in the stroller as it can’t go upright 100%.

    – Another parent reports that when they were at a farm, her son couldn’t enjoy looking at the animals. Her workaround was to put a rolled blanket behind his back to prop him up.

  • Toddlers don’t seem to have much space and their legs end up hanging out. Any movement easily sways the stroller.
  • Seat depth is an issue for some parents. One mom bought the Urban Glide 2 when her baby was 10 months old. Her child is now one year old, and there doesn’t seem much room in the seat to accommodate her little one’s growth in the next couple of years.
  • Some parents are concerned that the entire weight of the child is supported only by a cloth strap which is attached by one small screw on each side of the stroller. If either screw fails, the child could end up laying down on a sharp slant, waking up, and crying.
  • Its footrest is triangular, which can sometimes cause a child’s feet to dangle off it. This is a safety concern to look out for.

Canopy

The Urban Glide 2 features a large canopy with a pop-out visor. A zipper panel at the top of it provides added ventilation.

This jogger’s canopy provides your baby protection from the elements. However, some parents say that their child’s legs can get a little hot when the sun is out, because the canopy doesn’t provide complete coverage.

Its plastic peek-a-boo window is paired with a silent magnetic closure. This feature comes in handy when wanting to check on your child during their little naps.

There is a downside to the canopy – its fabric tends to fade or get discolored. It is an expensive component to replace at $400.

Parent Tip!

One parent says that when she first got the stroller, she rested her phone on top of the canopy. Her phone fell through an opening that she didn’t know was there and hit her child’s head. This happened prior to purchasing the parent console. Her serious recommendation – do not rest anything on the canopy.

Footrest

Based on our survey, parents say that the Urban Glide 2’s footrest is too small. The child only has a small space where he can place his feet. Sometimes, his legs can end up dangling on the sides, which is unsafe.

Quality of tires/wheels and wheel assembly

The Urban Glide 2 has a large and long wheelbase. Its 16″ big wheels at the rear carry most of the load; the 12.5” front wheel steers the stroller. These features make this jogger a great option for runners who prefer to explore adventurous terrain with their little ones.

The tires are inflatable, so please remember about pumping them occasionally. The Thule instruction manual recommends using a tire pressure of 30-35psi for optimal performance.

There are issues with the quality of the tire tubes – they cause the tires to go flat or low after some time. This could potentially be a manufacturing defect.

One parent says that the original tire tubes that come installed are incredibly cheap. Prior to its first use, he noticed that both rear tires were low on air after only sitting for a week. Luckily, a local bike shop installed some quality tubes to ensure that the issue doesn’t happen again.

As for the wheel assembly, its front swivel wheel is lockable. It’s easy to locate the locking mechanism – it is just above the wheel assembly. This rotating mechanism is easy to set and helps to keep the front wheel in the fixed position. This increases the stroller’s stability while running or tackling bumpy roads.

A handy feature of the front wheel is the little adjustment dial. The “aim” can be adjusted quite easily using this dial if your stroller tends to veer off in one direction.

As like other jogging strollers, the Urban Glide 2 is not spared from complaints about front wheel wobble. The front tire tends to shake the stroller vigorously even at a slow jogging pace. If specifically planning to go on a jog, please always remember to lock the front wheel so that it won’t wobble.

Some parents have reported that this jogger wobbles as much as the Chicco Active. On the contrary, the BOB Duallie has zero wiggle when locked.

Reliability issues on the front wheel and tire tubes were one of the biggest complaints we heard in our parent survey. Bear in mind though, that a vast majority of parents were very happy with their stroller overall.

Stroller stability – is it likely to tip or topple?

Compared to traditional strollers, the Urban Glide 2 has a lower center of gravity that sits right over its rear wheels. These wheels don’t sit right under your child, which reduces the risk of toppling over and helps make a smoother ride.

Parent Tip!

One parent strongly advises that while walking/running, do not press down on the handle because the stroller could tip over backwards. He noticed that it’s back heavy, so the front tends to come up off the ground.

Harness

5-point functionality and shoulder straps

The Urban Glide 2 has a 5-point harness that easily pops open when pressing the center button. It is easy to put on your child; with a single pull, it gently straps in your baby’s shoulder and waist without any pinching.

The adjustable shoulder and crotch straps make it a breeze to fit this jogger’s harness securely on your little one and especially active toddlers.

As it is extremely supportive around the waist, this harness is perfect for young babies. What’s equally important is that it is padded and soft to the touch, hence it doesn’t rub your child’s delicate skin.

As per parent comment, the straps could be a bit longer as they barely fit when her child is wearing a thick clothing.

Tether strap

Yes, this Urban Glide 2 has a durable tether strap. It prevents the stroller from getting away in case you lose your grip or fall for some reason.

It is located on the left side of the handbrake/handlebar.

Some parents find its left side placement uncomfortable, as most of them are right-hand dominant. The placement of the wrist strap greatly affects how they handle and maneuver the stroller. Unfortunately, the wrist strap can’t be transferred over from the left to the right side because of the handbrake.

Anything else I need to know?

As per Disney, strollers should be no larger than 31” (79 cm) wide and 52” (132cm) long when measured across the widest and longest points. The Urban Glide 2’s dimensions meet Disney requirements, with its width at 27.2″ and length at 41.1″.

This jogger benefits from improved visibility, thanks to the reflective rims on all wheels and reflective edge on the canopy. These help to make your child very visible in poor light conditions from all sides.

There are a variety of accessories which can beef up your Urban Glide 2. Apart from the child tray, parent console, and bottle cage, there’s the bassinet, bumper bar, rain cover, mesh cover (for protection from the sun and flying insects), and footmuff. Please be reminded that these could turn out to be a costly upgrade.

In terms of warranty, the Thule Guarantee will cover any defect or damage affecting your Thule product. Even damage caused by normal wear and tear or the natural discoloration of materials for 2 (two) years from the date of purchase by the original purchaser.

Should I buy it?

The Thule Urban Glide 2 is all about being versatile and practical at the same time.

It scores points with its one-handed fold, adjustable handlebar, the swivel option of the front wheel, easy maneuverability, great suspension, stability, large storage basket that can be zipped up, mesh hood ventilation panels, and storage pockets on the rear of the seat.

A concern that’s on middle ground would be its weight. While this jogger can be a bit cumbersome and heavy to handle, its weight provides stability and safety.

Areas for improvement would be for the canopy to extend a little further to block out sunlight, for the tether strap to fit over the chosen hand, and for essential accessories to be included in the stroller purchase, such as the parent console and child tray. Additional accessories need to be factored in when budgeting, so it would greatly help families if an item or two were taken off their list of things to purchase.

While it best caters to parents who are serious runners, even parents who don’t run will find the Urban Glide 2 highly functional and most importantly practical, due to it being dual-purpose. Not only is it a great jogger, it also works well as a regular walking stroller.

The bottom line – if you’re looking for a jogger that will allow you leisurely neighborhood walks to urban trips to rough-terrain adventures, you can rest assured that the Thule Urban Glide 2 has got you and your little one covered.
